In this episode of #LØRN, Silvija talks to captain & founder of EntrepreneurShip, WeAreHuman and Kahoot !, Johan Brand about how they won the classroom by creating a system that revolutionised the school, outside the bureaucracy with the use of a combination of hardware technology and small appliance solutions. As an advocate for play, impact through design, business and technology, his work has included high profile projects for brands including Mercedes, BBC, HP, and Unilever, as well as startups in London and abroad. With Kahoot!, an educational gaming platform with millions of users world wide, Johan demonstrates with his over-a-decade's experience, merging creativity with innovation and technology.

What is the most important thing you do in your job?
Find the potential that lies within others and myself. To create an environment where big ideas thrive and where uncertainty is okay.

What are the key concepts in your technology?
Everything I do is about human design principles we create for humans in between. I create and invest in technology that is for the better of humanity. With Kahoot! then we want to make learning cool, we use the network to create a device, we use game structure to do it and we use human contact to remember it. At EntrepreneurShip, we want people to discover the endless possibilities the sea offers us. We use a combination of hardware technology and small appliance solutions.

Why is it exciting and what drives you?
I love to be creative and eager to answer big and important questions. I love working with positive and optimistic people.

What do you think are the important controversies?
That we must dare to take the tough talks, and make the choices and changes we know will have a long-term effect, but which may not be a popular choice in the short term.

What is your own favorite project?
I think my long-term investment in oceantech will be what stands out.

Who is your customer?
Anyone who wants to learn.

What do we do especially well in Norway?
We are good at dealing with difficult issues.

A favourite quote or life motto?
You can’t change the wind, but you can learn to sail.

What is the most important thought in our conversation?
Build on others' ideas, steal with pride, but praise.
